This has to be one of the funniest and greatest Christmas comedy classics to have ever been made! If you have never seen this one, then do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
You Will Watch This Film Over and Over, Year After Year, With The Whole Family
This is one of those Holiday classics that you will watch over and over again, year after year. It is funny and just seems to always stand the test of time among Christmas movies.
Here’s Why You’ll Love This One
Personally, this is my favorite Christmas movie for so many reasons. I look forward to watching this every year. I can’t even count the number of times that I have watched this hilarious Christmas classic film.
What I love the most though, is that every time I watch this film, I pick out something new each time, that I did not see watching on previous occasions. You will love some of the stuff you see in it such as the moos mugs and the advent calendar and the nativity pyramid candle.
Sometimes my father, sister and I will watch the film together a couple of times in a row, while throwing out some of the lines to each other. This film really is a lot of fun for the whole family.
Here’s My Take On The Film
The film was made in 1989 and is mostly centered around a devoted goofy family man named Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase) who is a food chemist in Chicago. He is married to Ellen Griswold (played by Beverly D’Angelo) whom deals well with Clark’s goofy light-hearted overindulgent devoted dad nature who is always up for a good time and a memory with the family.
However, Clark’s good intentions often go awry. You see, Clark always over does everything. The couple have two children, Rus (played by Big Bang Theory and Roseanne star Johnny Galecki), and Audrey (played by another big star Juliette Lewis) as well.
This year Clark wants to have a good old fashioned fun family Christmas this year and wants to invite the entire family. He is really the only one in the family enthusiastic about this wife Ellen and the kids are openly not in the mood for the whole family.
Things are shaky from the moment the doorbell rings with relatives already arguing at the entryway. And things spiral even further out of control when unwanted and uninvited relatives crash the party to boot 🙂
Cousin Eddie Is My Absolute Favorite Character In The Movie
I won’t spoil all the rest of the hilarity that ensues as the movie gets rolling on its way and it becomes a real laugh a minute fim, but rest assured you are going to like this one.
It really is a load of laughs, and Randy Quaid’s character, cousin Eddie (played by Randy Quaid), the leisure suit wearing hillbilly is just comedy gold. He’s my absolute favorite character in the film!
Even Doris Roberts appears as one of the grandparents in this film. The cast is strong and the laughs are big.
Funny Things To Watch Out For In The Movie
- Check out the scene where Clark and Eddie go to Walmart. Eddie has that awful outfit on, and if you look at Eddie’s crotch area, you’ll notice a buldge. This has come up in some interviews that I have watched in the past about that scene. Randy Quaid, in speaking about the film in an interview that I saw somewhere said that he just impromptu placed the water bottle there as a gag. It is hilarious!
- Another hilariously epic scene is where Clark sets up the Christmas lights. The epic battle to get there, and the end result are quite a sight to see.
- Clark’s sheer cluelessness and clumsiness throughout the film are the real entertainment. Each one of them is pure comedy gold.
- The part when Clark has a sheer meltdown was epic. There is just something hilariously funny when that sort happy go lucky, tunnel-vision, plow through straight ahead kind of guy has an epic meltdown and just makes it even funnier, when reality sets in about what is really happening and they finally come to terms with what has happened, and they finally react to it in a totally epic way. And Chevy Chase as Clark W. Griswold delivers on this simply beautifully and in a quirky epic way that has always been entirely his own in these types of comedic roles.
A Family Oriented Christmas Classic That Will Leave You With A Definite Smile On Your Face This Holiday Season
Anyway, do yourself a favor and add this one to your collection in the format of your choice. It is a great fun for the family holiday classic that you will definitely watch over and over again. You will be glad you did.
Do yourself a favor though if you wish, and get even more into the Holiday spirit by pouring yourself a big glass of eggnog while watching this Christmas classic, and you will have twice the fun. A nice glass of wine works just as well. 🙂
Enjoy!
